We would like to offer you a very warm welcome to Barr Beacon SCITT. Our vision statement ‘to develop outstanding classroom practitioners who can go on to influence, mould and shape the lives of future generations for years to come’ underpins our programme and we’re incredibly proud of what we do. We invite you to explore the details of our programme and join us on our school-centred training programme.
Barr Beacon SCITT is a centre for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) in the West Midlands and Warwickshire. We currently work in partnership with a diverse range of main placement providers, which can be viewed here. Our ITT provision has gone from strength to strength over recent years and now provides trainees with a well-established mentoring, training and professional development package. Over the years we have trained over 80 trainees in a diverse range of subjects and in 2017/18 100% of our trainees were graded Good or Outstanding.
We are passionate about recruiting the best teachers who want to make a real difference to children’s life chances. We pride ourselves on ‘growing our own’ and this is shown by our superb employment rates. Over the last three years 98% of our trainees successfully gained a position as an NQT. We’re also really proud of the fact that the vast majority of trainees who train with us stay with us and join schools within our partnership or the local area.
On the successful completion of our training programme, you will:
– Be recommended for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by Barr Beacon SCITT.
– Have had the opportunity to gain the award of Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with the University of Worcester. If you want to find out more about the University of Worcester click HERE.
– Gain up to 60 Masters credits from assignments with the University of Worcester that demonstrate Masters level study and progression to a higher degree qualification (subject to satisfying the assessment criteria set out by the University of Worcester).
All of the PGCE university sessions are delivered in our on-site Training Suite at Barr Beacon School making it easily accessible to all of our trainees in our partner schools. The Barr Beacon course is an 11-16 training programme and a post 16 enhancement is available. All trainees will gain experience in the age range before secondary by under taking a primary school placement.
Alongside our professional qualifications, we also provide trainees with a package of support, including:
We also pride ourselves on the fact that as a SCITT trainee you will be integrated into one of the forward-thinking and supportive departments in our partnership schools and you will feel like a member of staff from day one.
As a SCITT trainee you will have access to our iCentre facility based at Barr Beacon School, which houses computer suites, meeting areas and our library facilities. We have an extensive selection of teacher training textbooks and subject specific literature to support you through your studies. We are also very proud of our new-build at Barr Beacon School which is the hub of the SCITT and contains our teacher training conference rooms and training suites.
