There are both academic and non-academic entry requirements for the Barr Beacon SCITT Initial Teacher Training programme. The SCITT has overall responsibility for ensuring that all applicants are able to demonstrate that they meet these national, statutory requirements by the start of the programme. All documentation provided to the SCITT must be an original copy.
We normally require a degree classification of a 2:2 or above (or equivalent). This is usually an Honours degree, ideally (but not necessarily) in a subject applicable to the teaching subject applied for. The degree classification will dictate the amount of bursary that applicants are eligible for. In all cases, successful completion of a degree will form part of the conditions of an offer.
We require a Grade C or Grade 4 at GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics. In all cases, passing English Language and Mathematics GCSEs at minimum Grade C or 4 will form part of the conditions of an offer.
All applicants are required to pass the professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy. This must be completed before the start of the programme and ideally they should be completed before the assessment stage. Applicants can find more information on the skills tests here. In all cases, passing the professional skills tests will form part of the conditions of an offer.
All successful candidates are advised to visit the school prior to starting the course for experience days, however, we do not have a minimum requirement for school experience to be able to apply or to begin the course.
All offers made are subject to enhanced DBS clearance and further background checks. Information on which checks are carried out by the SCITT prior to the commencement of the course can be found here.
